Ed Felten has a blog. How did I not find out about that for so long? Why hasn't the rest of the world noticed?

The Chicago Tribune includes a

The Chicago Tribune includes a nicely done story on Harper Lee, the author of "To Kill a Mockingbird". Lee has rarely granted any interviews since the early 1960s, and though she declined to be interviewed for this piece, she did allow herself to be photographed and her sister and close friends to talk to the reporter. It's a very interesting article.

News.com reports that publishing industry

News.com reports that publishing industry professionals expected Quark to announce a release date for Quark XPress for Mac OS X at the Seybold publishing conference this week. Quark didn't announce anything, and the article implies that nobody knows when XPress will ship.

What's missing is that Quark didn't announce a shipping date for XPress this week...but Apple did. At Apple Expo Paris this week, Apple announced that new Macs won't boot to Mac OS 9 as of January 2003. At the same time, MacCentral quoted a Quark representative as saying, "We haven't announced a specific date, but we are working very closely with Apple -- they are aware of our schedule and we are aware of theirs." In other words, XPress will almost certainly be shipping somewhere around January. No rocket science here, just a bit of logic applied to what were certainly carefully prepared public comments.
